The first of our TWD Talks series with Commsec’s Chief Economist in Craig James was a resounding success.
Held on a crisp, mid-winter morning at Frasers in Kings Park, the event had over 200 people in attendance to hear his insights into what we could expect over the next 12 months.
With shares currently at record highs, interest rates being cut and taxes being cut, Mr James had a positive outlook on how the local economy is being managed.
“When you run through our economic stocktake, we have the budget in balance, we’ve got record trade surplus, we’ve got low inflation, low interest rates, low unemployment,” he explained. “We’ve got a lot going for us.”
But while all is looking fairly rosy on our shores, Mr James mentioned the largest threats are from the global economy.
“It is the US-China trade dispute, and what that would mean for the global economy, and us here in Australia.”
Following the Commsec Chief Economist’s presentation, our own Head of Investments, Abby Macnish, discussed how we’re strategically preparing and diversifying our portfolios in light of current conditions.
